Mobile COVID-19 vaccination stations are being deployed in the Western Cape in a bid to decongest healthcare facilities and enable convenient access for South African communities.

The first stations have been deployed at hospitals in Khayelitsha and Eerste River, as well as community clinics in Vanguard and Khayelitsha Site B as part of global pharmaceutical company Cipla Foundation’s drive to assist the country’s roll-out of the vaccine.

The modular units feature an administration point to capture and verify patient data, and an area that facilitates the vaccination process. Each site has the capacity to administer up to 300 doses per day. All are compliant with social-distancing requirements, and provide shelter for people waiting in line before and after vaccination.

The Cipla Foundation has also partnered with Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages to roll out additional vaccination sites at community health centres in Nyanga, Philippi and Mitchells Plain.

Registrations for COVID-19 vaccination can be done online via the national Department of Health’s Electronic Vaccination Data System.
