Making light Nigeria is to begin making solar PV panels at a local manufacturing facility. This follows the establishment of Solarge Nigeria Limited, a special purpose vehicle jointly owned by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria (InfraCorp) and Solarge BV of the Netherlands. The 1 GW solar PV factory will target a 50% local content within the first three years of operation, according to an ESI Africa report. In addition, the REA has committed to procuring at least 200 MW of solar modules from the facility in five years. Solarge BV, which will have a 49% stake in the SPV, will provide technology and expertise; Infracorp (26%) will mobilise funding; and REA (25%) will drive policy and project co-ordination, reports Energy, Capital and Power. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, REA’s CEO, said the joint venture will also build local capacity and expertise to develop Nigeria’s clean energy sector. ‘This initiative aligns perfectly with the Renewed Hope Agenda and our mandate to electrify communities and institutions.’ PV magazine reports that earlier this year REA signed a deal with Lagos-based renewables developer Oando Clean Energy for a 1.2 GW solar PV assembly plant. 30 September 2025 Image: Unsplash
