The project will also involve the construction of a 90 km transmission pipeline, according to CNBC Africa. Asutsuare in eastern Accra has been proposed as the plant site. Greater Accra is reportedly Ghana’s most urbanised area, with about 5.5 million residents. The Ghana government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two Turkish construction companies – Hacıoğlu Holding and Koçak Çevre – to move forward with the planning phase, including a feasibility study, environmental and social impact assessment and a technical and financial proposal. The MoU is for two years unless it is superseded by a substantive contract for the proposed project. The project, structured on a build-operate-transfer model, will still need final parliamentary approval. 7 April 2026 Image: Freepik
