    Ties that bind

Three continents are being connected through a subsea fibre cable landing in Egypt.

The Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 6 (SEA-ME-WE-6) subsea cable system has landed in Port Said on the Mediterranean and in Ras Gareb on the Red Sea, with a terrestrial fibre line linking the two.

The SEA-ME-WE-6, the sixth edition of the cable system family, connects Singapore (Tuas) to France (Marseille), reports ITWeb Africa. Global subsea data system supplier SubCom was responsible for building the subsea cable system, while Telekom Egypt facilitated the overland connection.

Stretching 21 700 km, the SEA-ME-WE-6 cable features 17 landing points and strengthens the Eurasia route between Southeast Asia and Europe, while also adding critical connectivity to Africa.
