The V&A Waterfront, the crown jewel in South Africa’s tourism portfolio, is adding another luxury hotel to its mix.

The ZAR1 billion super-luxury Quay 7 hotel, which is scheduled to open in March 2026, is being built next to the Table Bay hotel, which is undergoing a ZAR1 billion makeover and is being rebranded as an InterContinental hotel.

Moneyweb reports that the Quay 7 hotel will be the most expensive hotel built in South Africa since the turn of the century. The Club Med Resort being developed on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast will cost R2 billion, but that project includes amenities, villas and three times the number of ‘keys’.

While Growthpoint, which shares a 50/50 stake in the B&A precinct with the Public Investment Corporation, would not confirm the name of the operator of the new hotel, Marriott Hotels was mentioned in a 2024 investor report.

The Quay 7 hotel will have only 142 keys and six serviced apartments, while the refurbished Table Bay Hotel is expanding from 261 to 306 rooms, including 45 new suites.
