Southern Africa’s access to fuel supply will boosted following a decision to set up a storage tank complex in Namibia.

Nigeria’s Dangote petroleum refinery has decided to construct storage tanks to hold at least 1.6 million barrels of refined petroleum and diesel to the region.

The US$20 billion Dangote refinery, which started operations last year and has capacity to produce 650 000 barrels a day, aspires to dominate the fuel market in Africa at a time when global trade flows are in flux, reports Engineering News.

Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and possibly the DRC are expected to benefit from the tank complex.

The Namibia Ports Authority confirmed the plans to build the tank complex in Walvis Bay harbour.
