In South Africa, the City of Cape Town has been awarded global support to develop two climate-change projects.

Engineering News reports that, in a new agreement, the C40 City Finance Facility (C40CFF) will provide Cape Town with US$10 million worth of technical assistance to develop a business proposal and master plan for deploying nature-based solutions to climate change; implementing green infrastructure and expanding its urban waterway rehabilitation programme.

The second project involves enhancing the city’s plans to become carbon-neutral by the year 2050.  The C40CFF will supply both projects with a project adviser.

Cape Town is a member of the global C40 Cities Climate Change Leadership Group, a network of almost 100 cities around the world committed to taking urgent action to tackle the climate crisis. The  C40CFF helps develop projects that address climate change in urban areas.

More than 60 cities applied to receive technical assistance after a call by the C40CFF last year. According to Engineering News, Cape Town was the only city to secure assistance for two projects.
