Zambia is receiving US$28 million in funding to support its COVID-19 vaccination programmes.

The donation will be used to increase access to vaccination sites, improve cold-chain supply and logistics, and address vaccine confidence and demand. The funding is through the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Global Vaccine Access (Global VAX) initiative, which focuses on scaling up vaccination support in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Guardian reports that Global VAX will support the Zambian Ministry of Health’s existing drive to vaccinate 70% of the eligible population by the end of June this year.

The latest funding follows US$24 million in USAID COVID-19 support to Zambia, in addition to US$12.3 million from other US governmental institutions.
