The Kenyan government is moving ahead with its plan to develop a renal centre in Nairobi.

The US$36 million project will be located at the Kenyatta National Hospital and jointly funded by the government and African Development Bank. It forms part of a broad network of ‘centres of excellence’ in non-communicable diseases across East Africa, as reported by Africa Investor.

Expected to include 25 wards, laboratories, surgical theatre’s, high dependency units and consultation rooms, the centre will also feature a medical school for kidney-related conditions.

With the tender process recently being completed, the government is expected to announce a commencement date shortly.
