A high-voltage power interconnection line will soon connect Egypt and Sudan, enabling the exchange of electricity.

Spanning 169 km, the transmission line is expected to boost the economic relationship between the two countries in terms of energy and trade, while stabilising supply, reports ESI Africa.

The project comprises a 220 kV transmission line of transferable power that will reach up to 300 MW. This has the potential to be increased to 3 000 MW by connecting via a 500 kV line.

Indian multi-national Larsen & Toubro Limited has completed construction of the pylons, and it is expected the power line will be activated in February.
