It will cost just over US$230 per night to stay in a hotel in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa. This average rate makes the city’s hotel prices the most expensive on the continent.

A study conducted by hospitality research firm STR Global states that even though there are only a few luxury hotels scattered across the city, the high prices for the rooms are a result of Ethiopia’s rapid economic growth. According to a CNBC report, the country which is situated in the Horn of Africa, has experienced a 10% growth every year for the past decade.

In other countries on the continent, by comparison, hotel rooms in Nigeria’s Lagos on average cost just under US$216, while nearly US$145 will get you a room in Kenya’s Nairobi. In the south of the continent, Cape Town’s hotel rooms will cost you just over US$120, while Johannesburg’s will only set you back around US$72.
