Financing for a nearly 600 km electricity transmission line between Temane and Maputo in Mozambique has been secured.

The Mozambican government, along with several co-operation partners, including the government of Norway, World Bank, AfDB, Islamic Development Bank, OPEC Fund and the Southern African Development Bank, signed deals to the tune of US$551.2 million for work on the 563 km Temane-Maputo power project, set to begin during the first half of 2020.

Green Building Africa reports that work on the line (scheduled to be completed by end-2023) will be divided into three sections: the 340 km stretch between Vilanculos and Chibuto (Inhambane and Gaza provinces); 180 km between Chibuto and Matalane (Gaza to Maputo province); and 43 km on the Matalane-Maputo section.
