Chinese auto maker Chery plans on producing its Jetour T-series SUV at its South African plant.

Chery, whose brands include Jetour, Omoda and Jaecoo, acquired the Rosslyn plant in Tshwane from Nissan South Africa in January 2026, and plans to produce 50 000 units from 2027.

Local production of the T-series is expected to start next year, though Chery has yet to confirm whether assembly will be semi-knocked-down or completely knocked-down.

The T-Series – including two plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), the T1 and T2 iDMs – has proved popular in South Africa, selling 4 500 units since its introduction last year.

‘In just 18 months since launching independently in South Africa, we have introduced four internal combustion models and two PHEV models, with further upgrades and new models planned for this year and the next,’ says Jetour South Africa VP Nic Campbell.

The overarching Chery group sells almost 5 000 units a month.
