High energy South Africa’s Eastern Cape province is set to host a utility-scale 1.5 GW hybrid renewable energy power farm. Engineering News reports that the Energy Fields project, a joint undertaking by Dimsum Energy and Goldwind Energy, is expected to reach financial close in 2027. According to another report in Green Building Africa, the ZAR40 billion project will comprise 700 MW of wind energy, 800 MW of solar PV and battery energy storage between 400 MW and 500 MW with a four-hour duration. The project is the first in a pipeline of renewable projects anticipated by the partnership, with Dimsum as the lead developer and Goldwind serving as the technology partner. The project envisages supplying corporates and industrial users through power purchase agreements. Dimsum Energy CEO and founder Demetri Pappadopoulos says most of the necessary permits are in place with state utility Eskom.
