One of Zimbabwe’s most productive lithium mines is set to start building a US$4270 million lithium concentration plant.

This is in line with the Zimbabwe governments’ announcement that it will ban the export of lithium concentrates from 2027 to drive an increase in local processing, report Engineering News

State-owned Kuvimba Mining House will partner with two Chinese miners to construct the 600 000 ton per year lithium concentrator at the  Sandawana mine in the Midlands province.

Lithium is an integral component in the manufacture of batteries to power renewable energy technologies.

Zimbabwe’s lithium sector delivered 2.4 million tons of concentrate last year, more than tripling 2023’s output of 745 455 tons, reports MSN. So far this year, exports have surged 30%, according to Reuters.
