Scrubbing up The continent can add another US$90 million to its efforts to build resilience to climate change. Following the success of its US$67 million clean energy fund set up in 2016, non-profit global venture fund Acumen has launched a second KawiSafi fund to drive climate solutions on the continent, reports Africa Business Communities. The goal of the fund is to have an impact on 50 million people and avert 50 million tons of CO2 at scale. It will focus on meeting Africans’ everyday needs, targeting practical use cases such as distributed renewable energy, resilient mobility, clean cooking and access to carbon finance. According to Africa Private Equity News, the fund has secured US$90 million in approved capital for a for-profit investment strategy. Investors include the AfDB’s Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa and the Green Climate Fund. ‘We are backing the entrepreneurs who are building scalable business models that turn climate challenges into growth opportunities across Africa,’ says Amar Inamdar, MD of the KawiSafi funds. 16 September 2025 Image: Freepik
