Tower territory Nigeria intends forming stronger connections with its citizens. Its federal government has okayed the roll-out of 4 000 telecom towers across the country to boost connectivity, particularly the 23 millon who live in underserved areas, reports IT Web Africa. The plan, announced by information minister Muhammed Idris after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, is in addition to a previous project to deploy 7 000 rural telecom towers and will complement the roll-out of 90 000 km of fibre-optic cable. ‘The deployment should significantly improve rural connectivity, stimulate commerce and strengthen security surveillance in areas currently without network coverage,’ Idris said. APA news service reported that the federal council also approved service centres for agricultural mechanisation to boost year-round farming in six geographic areas in the country. 9 December 2025 Image: Unsplash
